Speaking the history of future

Ideas are the food for human growth; we grow not with time but with ideas. This story is about me, Dustan Dolphus, a scientist in the neural network research laboratory at Tübingen. Not long ago from today something happened to this world changing its course forever.
Earlier a part of the European Union but now emerged as the world‘s super power after the collapse of USA into the 50 states which once built it into a verdant nation for decades, the same way the USSR broke into individual nations. Yes I am talking about no other than Germany. Still today the centre of mass industrial development resides in the hands of Ruhrgebiet which provides the revenues for catering the needs of Germany and its allied nations Poland, Czech Republic, Austria and Belarus. These five nations are now no longer a part of the EU. Belarus though rich in nuclear resources went bankrupt after its heavy economic losses in ties with Russia. Its economy sunk to the lowest level in the global markets. Now, it’s a part of the German allies and provides the energy for the industries in Ruhrgebiet, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Tübingen and Cologne- the heart of the Rhineland. So Germany today has the highest standards of living the world has ever seen.
Coming to the apocalyptic events in USA which ruined it totally to gloomy darkness were the depression in the economy followed by droughts and the Civil War. These events wretched it into 50 autonomous states. France, England and eventually Russia did try to support the US from bankrupting but failed leading to global crisis. Economies failed and eventually the scientific developments suffered.
Not long back from today, on the 9th Nov 2025 while doing some research on the old journals of Einstein, Newton and Gödel to find out the relations between the ways they comprehended the world. Just then a thought came in my mind shimmering like never before, it made me find a relation between history and memory. I arranged a group discussion with a panel of senior scientists. It was practical and revolutionary in this hour when the idea of an Indian scientist proved that the way of going to the past is not at all possible by using the concept of creating a Time Machine. My idea had the potential to change the course of our thinking of past and indeed quite practical if implemented in the daily life. At 5:00 am the meeting started. I squared my shoulders, stood by the lectern and commenced my presentation amongst the finest scientific brains of the 21st century. There were delegates from India, France, Britain, Russia and China.
Besides the complex mathematical derivations and applications of neuro-sciences which were yet in the stage of development, I concluded my presentation in simple words as follows:-
“What is history and what are the different ways in which a human mind can, if possible try to go to the past. If in case it’s possible to go back then what are the ways I can change it. I suggested the idea of memory alterations and the ways in which the data in the brain can be changed in a living being to go to a specific time frame before that particular event has happened. It’s not really taking him back in time but removing the cerebral changes which makes him identify his present state. If those locations (we call it cerebral datapoints) can be set to a pre-decided old state we can make that person to just forget the things that changed after that point of time.”
As per my view I thought that it’s worth a topic of research. Though Germany has sent manned missions to reach the farthest planets in the solar system but still we haven’t barged into human brain’s functionality.
The chairperson, chief scientist at the Encephalon Research Labs, Düsseldorf concluded by saying that “the project is really worth praising and we have the skill to work for it”. But in the end he said that it would take a lot of time and possibly a cost inefficient project to track the memory as it has no applications.
On further requests and my own reputation in the global society of technocrats, I was given a few scientists to choose from which could dedicate time to work on this project. Indeed not content but I had no other option left then to accept the proposal decided in the meeting. The researchers which I chose were amongst the best that I had ever worked with in the past. So we were a group of 9 destined to do something the world has never seen, never felt before.
Next day we started our project with the formal introduction of the team members. Decided the name of the team “Scions” meaning a detached shoot or a twig containing buds from a woody plant and that’s what we really were. We all had the knowledge to create new things for the experience we gained from years working with the various living and non-living things we see around. I had that great Indian scientist in my group too; named Prof. Kashyap who was the one I mentioned earlier proved that going to the past is impossible. He gradually became my very good friend. Rather disappointed with his own proof that past is unreachable hence frozen he was also curious to find ways to observe the past again. In a month or two, we came up with an idea that even if we can’t go to the past we can create conditions in our mind which can make us feel like we are in past. So observations will be based upon what the human senses perceive and not at all related to what they may actually mean to the rest of the world.
As a team we were doing very well and found the required datapoints in the mind centered in the innermost parts of pia-mater. We observed the daily changes by putting more and more data consciously or sub-consciously in our brain. Once this revolutionary thing was tracked we could note the gradual changes in it with time and possibly the only hindrance were to reach the datapoints which were written sometimes in the past and delete the changes which the brain had after that.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the deserts of Chad something strange happened. The local people said it was a flash of light in the sky and suddenly something stroke the top of a reef. When they came near it was like the blue colored lights were fusing themselves to form a body exactly equal in size of a normal human being. Slowly the light went off and there were 7 men standing tall and were murmuring. Then they again went back in flash.
Then it became a daily event when several such sightings happened in different parts of the world. Suddenly one day, a meeting of the top army staffs and the researchers called in the chancellor’s house. The meeting was headed by Chancellor Adalard Delbert himself. He told about his last night’s encounter with the people who look like us but were not from this world. They explained themselves as they are from the other parallel worlds that co-exist with this world and so like the earth they too are from earth present in some different world. They demanded the whole human race to work for them as slaves. He further added that they were speaking the same language and their expressions were like normal human beings. It surely was no way the work that the armies of the world can possibly handle. It was in the hands of the scientist to take the necessary steps and save the world from the people of a parallel world, not from the people of an alien planet whom we haven’t found a single clue. It was a fight with those who were just proofs in the great writings of Einstein and Hawking. The direct fight of similar civilizations, that what I’ll call it.
I personally took the DNA samples from the place where the “other world” people met the Chancellor and analysis of those samples just shook my beliefs. Their nucleotides showed incredible stability leading to well developed polypeptide chains which is the key factor for longer life span such that they can’t be killed or destroyed be any weapon of destructions which we have ever developed. This was really shocking as there was no way mankind can save itself from such an intrusion.
Another thing that worried me was to find the way by which they entered this universe which sooner became clear from the statements of the local people about saying that they came like a blue-colored light. This conforms that they have discovered the way to change their masses into energies, as E=mc2 is the way we change mass into energy the same way they have came up a step ahead saying that m=E/c2 is also equally valid.
No one can aver that it is possible to stop such forces, one that cannot be killed. Freedom was about to end for my world forever. The reputations of the entire scientific pool were sullied round the globe.
Fortune favors the brave and that’s what happened with us. The long forbidden project of memory alterations again got life. Probably it was the only possible solution to combat the intrusion. The same group of people who once discarded it as not worth of anything today were cheering up for it and were ready to invest man-power in it.
Day was the same 9th Nov; when the leader of the other world was coming to hear this world’s final submission to them, acceptance of slavery for the generations to come.
One more thing we learnt from the DNA samples of them was that they indeed can’t be killed but can be detected from other human beings as superficially they were same but that minor change in their DNA made them detectable.
We all, working well on the project finally succeeded in making the Vortex I, a first sensor that can detect a person by his distinct DNA sequence and can send radio waves which intern alters the brain, a person reaches a state of his past without he himself knowing about it. Applying the same logic on those people, they will forget their aim why they came on earth and their ways of coming to this place.
The dawn of 9th Nov broke, I remember the time when I first thought of this idea exactly a year ago. Now was the time to prove myself. All the space researchers round the globe were monitoring the universe to get a single chance of their coming but all in vain. Finally I remember, around 6 a.m. the lights flashed, from nowhere they came down shining bright like stars. Swiftly they descended and stood in front of the chancellor and said “We are back, ready for the surrender?” Indeed this was not at all a question as they were certain about our reply. Probably he was the leader. Then he continued to explain their journey till today. He told the story of Finestein, a scientist who once made a devastating discovery damaging the neurons of the body of the whole civilization with just 12 scientist left to carry on their world.
These were the last words of the foreign being and I turned Vortex I. Nothing physically happened and I was numb waiting for them to say something. Too curious, over-excited but still more was the fear of it not working. These thoughts were the heavy burden I carried for long 3 minutes till he said “where are we? And who are you? Do you guys have any idea who can we call living?”
Joyous, almost fainted as I heard these words, we succeeded and protected our world from them. Freedom is the asset we preserved, asset we won.
In the overwhelming praise I got, there was something still lacking in the results. I remember as Gödel said “From a given set of axioms, we can prove a set of assumptions but still there will be some assumptions left that can’t be proved using them. In here, we indeed succeeded in destroying the memory but then there must be some way to come back in present, which simply isn’t possible. What about the memory he was building from the day he lost his present memory? Will it be lost or will it be retained?
These possibly are the mysteries still waiting for their answers. I think, some things are always left incomplete; to be proved some other day to necessitate humanity.

THE END
